The action of the play moves round the central character of Sumitra Dev, i.e. The play deals with a bold theme of lesbianism and peoples got surprised to witness a lesbian on stage that left her to flow with the stream and rebel with the society. He stands for individual freedom and his Mitra is also working hard for it. He is an individualist and presents individual versus society. Though he remains a detached observer and exposed vices and weakness of society and individuals, he has some compassion for the victim of circumstances. The play depicted the tension between individual identity and social existence. The publication of his A Friend's Story also brought a turning point in Indian theaters as they shocked the sensibility of the conventional audience by projecting the realities of life, human relationship and existence. His works have generally awakened people of their long sleeps. The different power-blocks keeps on changing their strategies to achieve what they want. His A Friend's Story, written on an experimental topic, also criticize this relations of power along with the complex struggle to achieve the dominant position. His works cover the strong ethical concern exploring and critiquing the relations of power in their entire complex ramification. Tendulkar has always shocked the society with his controversial themes and stark commentary on current burning issue. At last, she took her life and rested in peace forever. Neither her family nor her friends, classmates, or society understands her. The protagonist of the play Sarita, throughout her life, faced a series of problems because of her state of living as a lesbian. People got astonished after seeing a lesbian directly on stage whom they do not like to see in a real-life. With this play's publication, Tendulkar brought a turning point in the Indian theatre for the conventional audience to see the darkest reality of society and human existence. Being a homosexual is not a choice on their own, but they are born with this quality called the people 'the deformity.' Through this play, Tendulkar raised the hot and burning contemporary issue of Homosexuality, which another writer of his era did not touch. They are mentally, socially, and physically torcher and mocked by the people. In our society, homosexuals are treated with great humiliation.
